Optical cable bending test

Optical cable bending test-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

The bending test refers to the ability of an optical cable to withstand repeated bending under a certain tension, which is mainly reflected in the power of the optical fiber. The bending test is suitable for different types of optical cables. The fiber optic cable bend test determines the ability of a fiber optic cable or cable component to withstand bending around a mandrel.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the mechanical properties of various optical cables and provides professional bending test services for optical cables.

Scope of tests

1. According to different transmission performance, distance and purpose, optical cables can be divided into user optical cables, local optical cables, long-distance optical cables and submarine optical cables.
2. According to the different conditions of transmission conductors and media, optical cables can be divided into metal-free optical cables, ordinary optical cables, and comprehensive optical cables (mainly used for railway dedicated network communication lines).
3. According to different laying methods, optical cables can be divided into pipeline optical cables, direct buried optical cables, aerial optical cables and underwater optical cables.
4. According to different structural methods, optical cables can be divided into flat structure optical cables, layered optical cables, skeleton optical cables, armored optical cables and high-density user optical cables.

Test method

1. Method E11A Winding (Basic Test Procedure) The sample is densely wound around the mandrel into a spiral at a uniform rate. Sufficient tension should be applied to hold the specimen against the mandrel, and the specimen should then be unwound and unrolled. One cycle includes one helix winding and one unwinding.
2. Method E11 BU-shaped bending (alternative test procedure) The specimen shall be bent through 180° around the mandrel and maintained taut during bending. One cycle consists of a U-bend, followed by a reverse U-bend and a return to a straight line. The diameter of the test mandrel and the number of cycles shall be specified in the detailed specification.
