Test Background
Many ship equipment are susceptible to impact during combat, use, loading, unloading, transportation, maintenance, etc. The magnitude of these impacts varies greatly, and the various impact characteristics are complex. The impact test is a simple method to determine the ability of the test piece to withstand non-repetitive impacts.

Environmental Effects
Mechanical shock will excite the equipment's forced vibration frequency and natural frequency response. This kind of response is especially caused by:
1. Failure caused by increased or decreased friction or interference between parts;
2. Changes in insulation strength. Decrease in insulation resistance, changes in magnetic field and electrostatic field strength;
3.Permanent deformation caused by overstress;
4. Accelerated fatigue of materials (low cycle fatigue).
Type of test
1. Strong impact test: It is suitable for the strong impact of ship equipment due to underwater explosions, close range missed gunfire, etc. that the ship may encounter during combat. It can also be used for high-intensity collisions.
2. Specified pulse waveform impact test: The test results of the specified pulse waveform impact test have better reproducibility than the stronger impact test.
There are three waveforms commonly used in stipulated pulse waveform impact tests. One of them can be selected according to the purpose of the test.
