Test Background
There is natural loss when optical signals are transmitted in optical fibers. Light cannot make small turns and the bending angle cannot exceed 90 degrees. Once there is a breaking point, the optical signal intensity will immediately plummet at this point, even causing the optical signal to be blocked. The optical cable bending test determines the minimum ring diameter at which the optical cable begins to bend.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the mechanical properties of various optical cables and provides professional bending test services for optical cables.
Scope of tests
1. According to different transmission performance, distance and purpose, optical cables can be divided into user optical cables, local optical cables, long-distance optical cables and submarine optical cables.
2. According to the different conditions of transmission conductors and media, optical cables can be divided into metal-free optical cables, ordinary optical cables, and comprehensive optical cables (mainly used for railway dedicated network communication lines).
3. According to different laying methods, optical cables can be divided into pipeline optical cables, direct buried optical cables, aerial optical cables and underwater optical cables.
4. According to different structural methods, optical cables can be divided into flat structure optical cables, layered optical cables, skeleton optical cables, armored optical cables and high-density user optical cables.
Test method
1. Form the sample into a ring. Slowly pull both ends of the specimen to reduce the diameter of the ring until it bends. The two tension forces applied to the bottom of the ring should be in one plane.
2. When it starts to bend, stop pulling. 3. Measure the length C of the ring-shaped optical cable segment formed by the starting and ending ends of the intersection. Use formula (1) to calculate the equivalent ring "diameter" d.
d=C/π……………………(1)
