Test Background

In the application of ultra-thin glass materials and components, they are often subject to external shock and vibration, or the impact of falling parts on the ultra-thin glass. For example, if a mobile phone we often use falls, the ultra-thin glass cover will be affected by the impact. If the ultra-thin glass itself has poor impact resistance, it will be more likely to be damaged and broken during application.
Therefore, measuring the dynamic impact and vibration resistance of ultra-thin glass is one of the important parameters for evaluating the damage resistance of ultra-thin glass, and also provides an important reference for the selection of ultra-thin glass.
The impact resistance test of ultra-thin glass can use the falling ball impact method to determine the ability of ultra-thin glass or its products to resist impact loads, expressed in terms of energy during impact damage.

Scope of tests

1. According to the production process method, there are float ultra-thin glass, grid (flat drawing) ultra-thin glass, and down-draw ultra-thin glass.
2. According to different chemical compositions, ultra-thin glass can be divided into alkali-containing ultra-thin glass and alkali-free ultra-thin glass.

Test method

A steel ball of a specific mass is raised to a specified height and released, converting its potential energy into kinetic energy. The steel ball rigidly collides with the sample to simulate and predict the ability of ultra-thin glass and its products to resist impact damage from hard objects during use. After the sample is impacted, if one of the following conditions occurs, the sample is judged to be damaged:
a) Visually visible contact damage spots on the ultra-thin glass surface at the impact point;
b) The sample breaks into two or more pieces;
c) Visually visible cracks appear on the sample.
