Test Background
Twistless roving is a roving made up of multiple parallel strands of raw filaments (multi-strand strands of raw filaments without twisting roving) or a roving that is directly bundled from multiple single filaments drawn at one time (single stranded roving) without twisting when splicing. The tensile breaking test of dipped yarn can determine the tensile breaking strength of dipped yarn.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various glass fibers and provides professional tensile fracture testing services for rubber-dipped rovings.
Scope of tests
1. According to the glass composition, it can be divided into: alkali-free glass twistless roving and medium-alkali glass twistless roving.
2. According to the application process, it is divided into: chopped roving, including chopped, sprayed, molded compounds, etc.; non-chopped roving, including winding, weaving, pultrusion, etc.
Test method
Determine the breaking strength of a specimen of rubber-impregnated roving by stretching the specimen to break using a suitable mechanical device. The sample is conditioned in a specified environment for 16 hours. Then test it in the same environment as follows:
1) Set the stretching speed:
—Standard method is 5 mm/min;
—The simple method is 10 mm/min.
2) Place the sample into the clamp. If the sample has a reinforcing piece, ensure that the clamping length of the reinforcing piece is 50 mm.
3) Apply a pre-tension force 10% lower than the expected breaking strength before locking the clamps to ensure correct straightening of the specimen. The clamping pressure is:
—Sample without reinforcement sheet 8.0 MPa;
—Sample with cardboard reinforcement sheet 6.0 MPa;
—Samples of composite materials and molded reinforcement sheets 4.O MPa.
4) Determine the breaking strength of 5 samples without using an extensometer.
5) Use an extensometer to measure the tensile elastic modulus of the remaining five specimens (since the breakage of the specimen may damage the extensometer, the extensometer should be removed when the tensile load reaches 2/3 of the breaking strength).
