Fabric shear performance test-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

Shear performance refers to the change in the intersection angle of the warp and weft directions when the fabric is acted upon by forces or moments within its own plane. Shear performance is a key factor affecting fabric tactile style and garment formability, and is affected by yarn and various fabric structural parameters. Fabric shear performance test can determine the shear performance of fabrics under small deformation.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various fabrics and provides professional shear performance testing services for fabrics.

Scope of tests

Classification according to fabric processing method: woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwoven fabrics;
Classification according to the spinning system of the fabric: combed fabric, carded fabric;
Classified according to different raw materials used in yarn: pure fabrics, blended fabrics, interwoven fabrics;
Classified according to different raw materials and production processes: cotton fabrics, wool fabrics, silk fabrics, linen fabrics, and pure fiber fabrics.

Test method

1. Clamp both ends of the sample and move the movable gripper along the parallel direction of the clamping line to shear the sample. When the shear angle increases from zero to the specified angle, the movable gripper returns to the initial position at the same speed and then continues to move in the opposite direction;
2. When the shear angle increases from zero to a specified angle in the opposite direction, the movable gripper returns to the initial position at the same speed to complete a cycle, and the sample shear stress-shear angle relationship curve is obtained, from which the shear stiffness and shear lag distance of the sample are calculated.
3. In general, the greater the shear stiffness, the better the fabric's resistance to deformation, and the smaller the shear lag, the better the recovery ability.
