Test Background
The external force that causes relative displacement between two adjacent parts of wood is called shear force. The ability of wood to resist shear damage is called shear strength. Along-grain shear strength refers to the shear strength when the shear force direction and shear plane are in line with the direction of the fiber of the material. When the wood is sheared along the grain, most of the red fibers themselves are destroyed, and only the connecting parts of the red fibers on the shear surface of the blank are broken. Therefore, the along-grain shear strength of wood is small, generally only 15~30% of the along-grain compressive strength.
The wood shear strength test along the grain can determine the shear strength along the grain of a small sample of wood without defects. Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various types of wood, and provides professional along-grain shear strength testing services for wood and wood-based products.
Scope of tests
Wood can be divided into:
according to how it is used
1) Wood restructured materials such as plywood, particleboard, fiberboard, laminated veneer lumber, laminated lumber, restructured wood, oriented strand board, restructured decorative veneer, etc.
2) Wood-based composite materials such as gypsum particleboard, cement particleboard, wood/plastic composite materials, wood/metal composite materials, wood conductive materials and wood ceramics.
Test method
The shear force formed by the pressurization causes one surface of the sample to slide against the other surface to measure the shear strength of the wood along the grain.
1) Measure the width and length of the shear surface of the sample to the nearest 0.1mm.
2) Mount the sample on the pad 3 of the testing device, and adjust the screws 4 and 5 so that the top of the sample and the upper part of surface 1 are close to the adjacent two sides of the concave corner of the upper part of the testing device until the sample does not move. Then place the pressing block 6 on the sample slope II, and make its side surface close to the main body of the testing device.
3) Place the test device with the sample installed on the testing machine, so that the center of the pressing block 6 is aligned with the center of the indenter on the testing machine.
4) The test is loaded at a uniform speed, and the sample is destroyed within 1.5 min~2.0 min. The load reading is accurate to 10 N.
5) After the sample is broken into small pieces, measure the moisture content immediately according to GB/T 1931.
