Test Background

Structural sandwich is a composite structure of plate and shell structure. Its two surfaces are made of very thin plates, with a lighter sandwich layer sandwiched in the middle. The former is called the dashboard and requires high strength; the latter is called the sandwich and requires light weight. General structural interlayers are used for wings, tails, fuselages, rocket bodies, arrowheads, speed brakes, engine nacelles, sound insulation devices, fire partitions, etc.
The shear performance test of sandwich structural materials can measure the plane shear strength and plane shear modulus of the sandwich structure or core sample.

Scope of tests

Sandwich materials include lightweight wood, foam plastic, etc. Metal materials or composite materials can also be used to make corrugated board sandwich or honeycomb sandwich (see honeycomb structure).

Test method

By applying tensile or compressive load to the metal loading block bonded to the sample, plane shear is produced on the core along the direction of the sandwich structure panel, thereby measuring the plane shear strength of the core.
When the deformation meter is installed and the relative displacement of the two panels or two loaded steel plates is measured, the plane shear modulus of the core can be measured.
