Test Background
The interlaminar shear test of fiber-reinforced plastics can be used to determine the interlaminar shear strength and modulus of fiber-reinforced plastics using the double-beam method (DBS), which is suitable for glass fiber or carbon fiber reinforced thermosetting plastics that can undergo acceptable interlaminar failure. Interlaminar shear strength refers to the shear strength calculated from the critical load.

Scope of tests
Commonly used fiber-reinforced plastics include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyester (PET) and other high-molecular polymers and high-purity natural wood, as well as some man-made fibers (cellulose fibers), glass-reinforced resins and metal fibers.
It can be divided into three categories according to its molding methods: thermoplastic resin, thermosetting resin, and polycarbonate.
Test method
A rectangular cross-section specimen is used as a beam and loaded using a 5-point bending method. The applied load produces a pure interlaminar shear stress region.
When delamination failure occurs, the critical load endured by the specimen is used to determine the interlaminar shear strength, and the deflection of the specimen under load is used to determine the interlaminar shear modulus.
