Shear test of fiber reinforced plastic composites-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

The shear test of fiber-reinforced plastic composites can be used to determine the in-plane shear stress/shear strain response, shear strength and shear modulus of continuous fiber-reinforced plastic composites with fiber directions of 0° and 0°/9o° using a shear frame.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various fiber-reinforced plastics and provides professional shear testing services for fiber-reinforced plastic composite materials.

Scope of tests

is suitable for unidirectional fiber, non-woven and/or fabric (such as unidirectional fabric) reinforced thermosetting and thermoplastic composite laminates, the fiber direction is 0° and 0°/90° relative to the specimen axis, and the layup is symmetrical and balanced relative to the mid-plane of the specimen.

Test method

1. Fix the square sample with four concave corners in the shear frame, so that the direction of the reinforcing fiber relative to the loading axis of the testing machine is 0° or 0°/90°, and perform pure shear loading on the sample. By measuring the tensile load applied to the shear frame and the shear strain of the sample, the in-plane shear strength and in-plane shear modulus are obtained.
2. This method puts the sample in a pure shear state and is not interfered by superimposed shear stress and other stresses during the test, thereby ensuring the reproducibility of the measurement of material properties.
3. The surrounding edges of the sample are clamped by a shear frame that can repeatedly apply balanced pressure. The device is equipped with a driven mechanism that can maintain a constant clamping force. The specimen has no free edges and does not produce load redistribution effects that may affect the test results.
Because the maximum shear stress occurs in the center of the specimen, invalid test results such as material damage will not occur in the clamped area of the specimen.
