Test Background

The in-plane compression test of fiber-reinforced plastics can determine the in-plane compressive strength, compressive elastic modulus, compression secant modulus, maximum compressive strain, and compressive stress-strain curve of fiber-reinforced plastics. Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various fiber-reinforced plastics and provides professional in-plane compression testing services for fiber-reinforced plastics.

Scope of tests

Commonly used fiber-reinforced plastics include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyester (PET) and other high-molecular polymers and high-purity natural wood, as well as some man-made fibers (cellulose fibers), glass-reinforced resins and metal fibers.
It can be divided into three categories according to its molding methods: thermoplastic resin, thermosetting resin, and polycarbonate.

Test method

Apply an axial load to the sample through a compression fixture that can avoid sample instability, prevent sample eccentricity and end extrusion damage, so that the sample is compressed and damaged in the working section. The load and strain (or deformation) in the test area are recorded, and the required compression performance can be obtained.
Compressive strength: the maximum compressive stress that the specimen can withstand.
Maximum compressive strain: the strain at compression failure, expressed as a percentage.
Compressive modulus of elasticity: The slope of the straight segment of the compressive stress-strain curve within the proportional limits.
Compression secant modulus: The slope of the line connecting the origin and a specific point on the compressive stress-strain curve is called the compression secant modulus at that point.
