Test Background

Shore hardness refers to the reading of the value measured with a Shore hardness tester. Its unit is "degree". There are two description methods: A and D, which represent different hardness ranges. If the hardness is below 90 degrees, use the Shore A hardness tester to test and get the data. For 90 degrees and above, use the Shore D hardness tester to test and get the data.
The Shore hardness tester is easy to carry, has simple results, is easy to operate, and can measure quickly. It is especially suitable for on-site hardness measurement. It has long been used to measure the hardness properties of finished and semi-finished products and to control the quality of rubber products.

Scope of tests

Vulcanized rubber: flat vulcanizing machine vulcanizing type, vulcanizing tank vulcanizing type, continuous vulcanizing type, special vulcanizing type, etc.
Thermoplastic rubber: polystyrene, polyurethane, polyolefin, polyester, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, ethylene-acrylate copolymer, polyethylene-butyl rubber joint copolymer, etc.

Test method

1. Place the rubber roller to be measured firmly so that its main axis is horizontal and the area to be measured is at the highest position. Hold the hardness tester in place with the indenter just above the area to be tested. Place the presser foot on the roller surface as quickly as possible without vibrating, and ensure that the presser head is perpendicular to the rubber surface. Apply enough force to make the presser foot and rubber roller close together.
2. Generally, the reading is taken after the vulcanized rubber-coated roller surface is in close contact with the presser foot for 3 s, and the thermoplastic rubber-coated roller surface is in close contact with the presser foot for 15 s.
3. Better reproducibility can be obtained by applying the pressure foot to the specimen using a bracket or mass block centered on the indenter axis, or both. The recommended masses for Type A and Type D hardness testers are 1 kg and 5 kg respectively.
4. Take three points in the area to be measured to measure the hardness. The distance between points should not be less than 6 mm.
