Test Background

The room temperature compression test of metal materials can determine the specified plastic compression strength, specified total compressive strength, upper compression yield strength, lower compression yield strength, compression elastic modulus and compressive strength of metal materials under unidirectional compression at room temperature.

Scope of tests

Metal materials are divided into two categories: ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals.
Ferrous metals are steel materials. In industrial production, iron and its alloys are usually called ferrous metals, such as steel, pig iron, iron alloys, cast iron, etc.;
Nonferrous metals are metal materials other than steel, such as aluminum, titanium, copper, zinc, manganese, etc., and in a broad sense include nonferrous alloys.

Test method

1. Determine the relevant compressive mechanical properties by applying increasing unidirectional compressive force to the specimen in the axial direction.
2. For a testing machine with strain control, set the strain rate to 0.005 min-1. For load-controlled or beam displacement-controlled testing machines, it is allowed to set a speed equivalent to a strain rate of 0.005 min-1. If the material is strain rate sensitive, a speed of 0.003 min-1 can be used.
3. For systems without strain control, maintain a constant beam displacement rate to achieve the average strain rate required during the test. A constant beam displacement rate during the test does not guarantee a constant strain rate during the test. No matter which method is used, a constant rate should be used and no sudden changes are allowed.
