Test Background

The impact test of metal materials can reveal the impact of certain structural features and working conditions on mechanical properties that are not easily found under static load (such as stress concentration, internal defects of the material, chemical composition, temperature during loading, stress state, and heat treatment conditions). Therefore, the impact test has certain significance in process analysis and comparison and scientific research. The metal material impact test can determine the toughness or fracture resistance of metal materials at high speeds.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various metal materials, and provides professional impact testing services for metal materials.

Scope of tests

Metal materials are usually divided into ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and special metal materials.
1. Ferrous metals include chromium, manganese and their alloys.
2. Non-ferrous metals refer to all metals and their alloys except iron, chromium and manganese, which are usually divided into light metals, heavy metals, precious metals, semi-metals, rare metals and rare earth metals.
3. Special metal materials include structural metal materials and functional metal materials for different purposes. Among them are amorphous metal materials obtained through rapid condensation processes, as well as quasicrystalline, microcrystalline, and nanocrystalline metal materials; there are also special functional alloys such as stealth, hydrogen resistance, superconductivity, shape memory, wear resistance, vibration reduction and damping, and metal matrix composite materials.

Test method

The specimen is broken by a single impact of the pendulum. The notch of the specimen has a prescribed geometry and is located in the center of the two supports, opposite the center of impact. The measured parameters include absorbed energy, lateral expansion value and shear section ratio.
Since the impact results of many materials will change with temperature, the test should be carried out under given temperature conditions. When the given temperature is not room temperature, the specimen should be heated or cooled at a controlled temperature.
