Metal wire and rivet shear tests

Metal wire and rivet shear tests-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

metal wire and rivet shear test can measure the shear strength of metal wire and rivets at room temperature to 700°C, with a diameter not larger than 6 mm (not larger than 10 mm for materials with low shear strength).
Zhongke Testing and Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various metal materials, and provides professional shear testing services for wires and rivets.

Scope of tests

Metal wire: galvanized wire, plain wire, high wire, iron wire, spring steel wire, coiled wire (strip), welding wire, high quality wire, hard wire, plain carbon round steel, iron wire, cold drawn wire, etc.
Metal rivets: Commonly used rivets are composed of a rivet head and a cylindrical rivet rod, including semi-circular head, flat cone head, countersunk head, semi-countersunk head, flat head, flat head and oblate head, etc.

Test method

1. The room temperature test should be carried out in the range of 10℃~35℃, and the high temperature test should be carried out at the specified temperature.
2. In the high temperature test, use a thermocouple to directly measure the temperature in the middle of the sample. The temperature deviation during the test should meet the requirements.
3. The shear test speed (moving speed of the testing machine beam) shall not be greater than 5 mm/min.
4. The time for the high-temperature test sample to be heated to the test temperature is generally no more than 1 h, and the holding time is 15 min to 30 min. Then the test force is applied, the maximum test force when the sample is sheared is recorded, and the shear strength is calculated.
5. After shearing, if the sample bends or the fracture surface has a wedge-shaped, oval-shaped shear section, etc., the test results will be invalid and the sample should be re-sampled for testing.

Test standard:

GB/T 6400-2007 Metallic materials - Wire and rivet shear test methods
GB/T 4338 Metal Materials High Temperature Tensile Test Method
GB/T 16825.1 Inspection of static uniaxial testing machines Part 1: Inspection and calibration of force measuring systems of tensile and/or compression testing machines
