Metal tube lateral bending test-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

With the rapid development of industries such as metallurgy, shipbuilding, aviation, petroleum, offshore engineering, pressure vessels and construction steel structures, domestic large-size seamless steel pipes, straight seam welded steel pipes and other non-ferrous metal pipes are increasingly used. The diameter of metal pipes is getting larger and larger (D>1 m), and the pipe walls are getting thicker (T>40 mm). The metal pipe transverse bending test method is used to evaluate the flattening process performance of seamless pipes and welded pipes, which provides a basis for the design, application and engineering inspection of large-diameter thick-walled pipes.
The metal pipe transverse bending test can replace the flattening test, and the metal pipe transverse bending test specimens include arc specimens and rectangular specimens. Zhongke Inspection Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various metal materials, and provides professional transverse bending testing services for metal pipes.

Scope of tests

is suitable for bending tests on transverse arc specimens of metal pipes with an outer diameter of not less than 60 mm (metal pipes include seamless round pipes and straight seam welded round pipes) and transverse rectangular specimens of metal pipes with an outside diameter of not less than 400 mm.

Test method

1. Place the sample on the bending device without changing the direction of the force applied to the sample, and allow it to undergo bending plastic deformation until it reaches the specified bending angle.
2. The bending test results should be evaluated according to the requirements of metal pipe product standards.
3. If the relevant standards do not stipulate specific requirements, and no magnifying instrument is used for observation after the bending test, if there are no visually visible cracks or other defects on the bent outer surface of the seamless round pipe sample, the test shall be assessed as qualified. If there are no cracks or other defects with a length greater than or equal to 3 mm on the curved outer surface and side of the straight seam welded round pipe sample, it shall be assessed as passing the test.
