Test Background
Perpendicular to surface tensile strength refers to the maximum tensile load perpendicular to the specimen surface recorded during the tensile test divided by the cross-sectional area of the specimen. The vertical tensile strength test of building insulation products can determine the tensile strength of the product perpendicular to the surface.

Scope of tests
Inorganic fibrous products: asbestos products, mineral wool products, glass wool products, ceramic fiber products
Inorganic granular products: expanded vermiculite products, expanded perlite products
Inorganic porous products: diatomite products, microporous calcium silicate products, foam glass products, foam concrete and aerated concrete products
Test method
Bond the sample to two rigid plates or rigid blocks, then install it on the testing machine, and perform a tensile test at a constant speed until failure. Record the maximum tensile load and calculate the tensile strength of the specimen.
1. Measure the cross-sectional area of the sample according to ISO 29768.
2. The measurement of the cross-sectional area of the sample is best carried out before bonding the sample to two rigid plates or rigid blocks.
3. Install the sample on the fixture of the testing machine, and apply tensile load at a constant speed until the sample is damaged.
4. Record the maximum load, expressed in kN.
5. Record the mode of damage, material damage or skin, surface and/or coating damage.
6. When the adhesive layer between the sample and the rigid plate or block is completely or partially damaged, discard the sample.
