Test Background
Fiber-reinforced composite bars refer to rod-shaped fiber-reinforced composite products formed by using glass fiber, carbon fiber, aramid fiber, basalt fiber, etc. as reinforcing materials and a resin matrix using an appropriate molding process.
Zhongke Testing and Reliability Experiment Center has environmental testing capabilities for various metal materials and provides professional mechanical performance services for fiber-reinforced composite bars.
Experimental significance
Compared to metals, fiber-reinforced composites exhibit highly complex failure mechanisms. Even the most basic unidirectional (UD) composites fail in different modes depending on the load (tension, compression, or shear) and its direction or plane of action.
Various fiber structures, such as straight fibers or woven fabrics, further increase the complexity of the basic failure modes of composites. In addition to this, manufacturing defects play an important role in the initiation and progression of composite failure.
In light of this, the basic concept of “strength” as a measure of load-carrying capacity cannot adequately account for the complexity of composite material failure and its ability to provide safe performance in use.
