Test Background
Chemical reagents have corrosive and damaging effects on certain plastics, such as oxidation, degradation or other chemical effects that may reduce performance. Organic solvents and grease may cause plastic dissolution, swelling, deformation, dimensional changes, performance reduction, etc.
The plastic liquid chemical reagent resistance test can measure the performance changes caused by the plastic sample being immersed in liquid chemical reagents without being affected by the outside world. It is only applicable to the case where the surface of the sample is completely immersed in liquid chemical reagents.

Scope of tests
According to the different usage characteristics of various plastics, plastics are usually divided into three types: general plastics, engineering plastics and special plastics.
General plastics: polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene (PS) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS).
Engineering plastics: polyamide, polyformaldehyde, polycarbonate, modified polyphenylene ether, thermoplastic polyester, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, methylpentene polymer, vinyl alcohol copolymer, etc.
Special plastics: base-reinforced plastics (such as rag-reinforced or asbestos-reinforced plastics), inorganic mineral-filled plastics (such as quartz or mica-filled plastics), fiber-reinforced plastics (such as carbon fiber-reinforced plastics), etc.
Test method
1. Under the specified temperature and specified time conditions, completely immerse the sample in the test liquid.
2. Measure the performance of the sample before and after soaking. If feasible, it can also be measured after drying. In the latter case, the tests shall be carried out one after the other within the same group of specimens wherever possible.
3. The specified test method is as follows:
a) Immediately after soaking or soaking and drying, measure the changes in quality, size and appearance of the sample;
b) After soaking or soaking and drying, immediately measure the changes in the physical properties of the sample (mechanical properties, thermal properties, optical properties, etc.);
c) Liquid absorption capacity. If it is required to determine the condition of a material still exposed to liquid action, testing immediately after immersion should be used.
If it is required to determine the state of the material under the action of liquid (liquid is volatile), the method of testing after drying without soaking should be used. This method allows determination of the effects of soluble components.
