Dust test for military equipment-Reliability Testing-

Test Background

Natural sand and dust environments are often associated with hot and dry regions, but they also occur seasonally in most other areas, so naturally occurring sand and dust storms are an important factor to consider when using equipment. But as military operations become more mechanized, they cause more problems than those caused by natural sand and dust environments. The main hazards of sand and dust environment to military equipment include: seal penetration, circuit performance degradation, clogging of openings and filtering devices, physical impact on mating components, stuck and/or blocked moving parts, reduced thermal conductivity, affected optical properties, overheating and fire hazards due to obstruction of ventilation or cooling, etc.
The military equipment sand and dust test can measure the sand and dust environmental adaptability of various military equipment. The small particle dust (diameter ≤ 149um) procedure is designed to evaluate the equipment's resistance to dust that may block openings and penetrate into cracks, bearings and joints; it is also used to evaluate the working efficiency of filtering devices. The purpose of the sand blowing (diameter 150um~850um) procedure is to evaluate whether the equipment can be stored and worked under sand blowing conditions.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of climate environment testing and mechanical environment testing of various military equipment, and provides professional sand and dust testing services for military equipment.

Scope of tests

All military equipment such as mechanical, optical, electrical, electronic, electrochemical and electromechanical devices that may be exposed to dry sand blowing, dust blowing or dust fall conditions.

Test method

1. Dust blowing test is used to study the adaptability of equipment to the effects of blowing dust (true diameter ≤ 149 μm).
2. Sand blowing test is used to study the adaptability of the equipment to the action of sand blowing (diameter 150 μm ~ 850 μm).
3. Dust fall test is used to study the impact of dust fall (diameter ≤ 105 μm) on equipment (usually electrical equipment) in covered or closed areas (such as offices, laboratories, storage rooms and tents) where there is almost no air flow and dust can accumulate for a long time.
Dust fall can also affect the cooling of equipment that has accumulated dust on its top surface. The dust reduction test is also used to verify the quality of the air filter at the inlet of air pollution samplers used outdoors.
