Military equipment rain test-Reliability Testing-

Test Background

The main impacts of rain and penetrating rainwater on military equipment are: limiting the effectiveness of radar, limiting aircraft operation due to reduced visibility and reducing wing lift (during heavy rain), rain collision and erosion of equipment surfaces, reducing the visibility of optical devices, causing strength reduction/bulging of certain materials, and failure of electrical equipment, etc.
The military equipment rain test can measure the environmental adaptability of various military equipment in environments related to rain, water spray and dripping water.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of climatic environment testing and mechanical environment testing of various military equipment, and provides professional rain test services for military equipment.

Scope of tests

Equipment that may be exposed to rain, water spray or dripping water during storage, transportation/operation:
a) If the equipment is installed in the same state, a more severe immersion (leakage) test is usually considered to determine whether water can penetrate the equipment. If the equipment has previously passed the immersion test without a change in the installation condition, the equipment does not usually need to withstand the rain test. However, there is also a problem that the display during the rain test cannot be seen due to the pressure difference during the immersion test.
b) If the equipment is likely to be placed on a surface with a large amount of standing water, a immersion test may be more appropriate. In most cases, both tests should be carried out if they are considered appropriate within the life cycle profile.

Test method

1. Rainfall and blowing rain test
Rainfall and blowing rain tests are suitable for outdoor equipment without measures to prevent rain and blowing rain. The accompanying wind speed can vary from almost no wind to very high wind speeds. For equipment that cannot be adequately tested using this procedure due to equipment size, rainfall and blowing rain tests should be considered.
2. Enhanced test
When testing large-scale (referring to the size of the test piece) equipment and it is not possible to use rainfall and rain blowing devices, consider using enhanced testing. This program does not simulate natural rainfall, but it can provide greater confidence in the waterproofness of your gear.
3. Drip test
Suitable for equipment that is normally rain-proof but may be exposed to dripping water due to condensation or leaks from upper surfaces. The drip test has two variables:
a) The equipment encounters dripping water (usually condensed water);
b) Equipment exposed to severe condensation or upper surface leakage.
