Test Background

In the environment where marine instruments are used, the proportion of failures caused by temperature factors can reach 35%. Especially for water meters, instruments are more susceptible to the influence of temperature during the conversion stages of different areas above and below the water, causing failures. Therefore, carrying out reasonable temperature change tests can more truly reflect the environment and failure modes encountered by instruments and equipment, and more fully stimulate the hidden defects, faults and failures of products. Temperature changes usually have a more serious impact on parts close to the outer surface of the instrument. The farther away from the surface, the slower the temperature change and the smaller the impact.
Rapid temperature changes may temporarily or permanently affect instrument performance. The temperature change test of marine instruments assesses or determines the adaptability of marine instruments for use under temperature changes, and can also be used as a temperature change environment test for its parts and components.

Failure impact

1. Typical physical effects
Breakage of glass containers and optical instruments; clamping or loosening of moving parts; different shrinkage or expansion rates and induced strain rates of different materials; deformation or cracking of parts; cracking of surface coatings; leakage of sealed cabins; failure of insulation protection, etc.
2. Typical chemical effects
Separation of various chemical components; failure of protection of chemical reagents, etc.
3. Typical electrical effects
Rapid condensation of water or frost causes electronic or mechanical failure; excessive static electricity, etc.

1. Marine instrument temperature change tests include step temperature changes and rapid temperature changes.
2. Marine instruments used interchangeably in atmospheric and water environments should be subjected to step temperature change tests.
3. Marine instruments used in high- and low-temperature atmospheric environments should undergo rapid temperature change tests.
