Low temperature test of cable insulation materials

Low temperature test of cable insulation materials-Reliability Testing-

Test Background

Low temperature may make materials brittle. For example, PVC and polyethylene insulation and sheath materials of wires, cables, and optical cables are prone to brittle damage at low temperatures. The hardness of rubber materials increases and their elasticity decreases. The purpose of the low-temperature test for cable insulation materials is to assess the environmental adaptability of PVC and polyethylene insulation and sheath materials for wires, cables and optical cables to see whether they meet the specified environmental requirements and whether the product is qualified, as a basis for decision-making on product acceptance or rejection.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has environmental testing capabilities for various cables and optical cables, and provides professional low-temperature testing services for cable and optical cable insulation and sheath materials.

Scope of tests

The most common types of insulation and sheathing materials for power distribution and communications cables and optical cables, wires and cords, including polymer insulation and sheathing materials for marine and offshore cables and optical cables, and polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene insulation and sheathing materials for wires, cables and optical cables.

Type of test

1. Insulation low-temperature winding test is suitable for circular insulated wire cores with an outer diameter of 12.5 mm and below and sector-shaped insulated wire cores that cannot be prepared as dumbbell specimens.
2. Sheath low-temperature winding test is suitable for cables with an outer diameter of 12.5 mm and below and flat cables with a short axis size of 20 mm and below.
3. Insulation low-temperature tensile test: It is suitable for the insulation of insulated wire cores that do not undergo low-temperature winding tests.
4. Sheath low-temperature tensile test is suitable for the insulation of insulated wire cores that do not undergo sheath low-temperature winding tests.
5. PVC insulation and sheath low-temperature impact test: Applicable to all kinds of PVC sheathed cables, regardless of the insulation type of the insulated core.
If the relevant cable product standards provide for it, it also applies to the polyvinyl chloride insulation of unsheathed wires, flexible wires and flat flexible wires.
