DMF Test

DMF testing is performed on products made from textiles or leather, including furniture and footwear, to detect the presence of the chemical dimethyl fumarate (DMF). Dimethyl fumarate is mostly packaged in small bags fixed inside furniture or added to shoe boxes. This keeps the product dry and moisture-proof and prevents the product from growing mold. However, consumers exposed to the product were also harmed.

Dimethyl fumarate penetrates consumers' skin through clothing and causes painful skin contact dermatitis, including itching, irritation, redness and burning; in some cases, acute respiratory illness has also been reported. Dermatitis is particularly difficult to treat.

The presence of dimethyl fumarate therefore becomes a serious hazard.

The European Commission passed the "Draft requiring member states to ensure that products containing the biocide dimethyl fumarate are not placed on the market or sold on the market" (2009/251/EC), stipulating that after May 1, 2009, products containing dimethyl fumarate are prohibited from being placed on the market or sold on the market.

Dimethyl fumarate has low toxicity. According to clinical trials, it is corrosive and allergenic to the human body. It can be inhaled through the esophagus to cause corrosive damage to the human intestines and internal organs and cause allergies; and when the substance comes into contact with the skin, it will cause contact dermatitis pain, including itching, irritation, redness and burns; to humans It causes great harm to physical health, especially to the growth and development of children. In addition, it is slightly harmful to water. Do not let a large number of products come into contact with groundwater, waterways or sewage systems. Therefore, various countries have issued laws and regulations prohibiting products containing DMF dimethyl fumarate from being put on the market or sold in the market.
