Test Background
latex paint freeze-thaw resistance test can determine whether the water-based paint based on synthetic resin emulsion has any damaging changes in viscosity, anti-aggregation or anti-caking after being frozen and thawed, and whether it maintains its original performance.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various paints and provides professional freeze-thaw resistance testing services for latex paints.
Scope of tests
1) According to use: there are wood paint, iron paint, glass paint, aluminum paint;
2) Divided by state: water-based paint and oil-based paint. Water-based paint is mainly latex paint, while lacquer paint, polyurethane paint, etc.;
3) According to the form of action: volatile paint and non-volatile paint;
4) According to the surface effect: transparent paint, translucent paint and opaque paint.
Test method
1. Method A
Place the sample jar into the freezer, and keep the freezer temperature at (-5±2)°C. The sample jars must not be in contact with the box wall or bottom (the sample jars can be placed on a shelf). There must be at least a 25 mm gap between adjacent sample jars and between the sample jars and the box wall to facilitate free circulation of air around the sample.
The sample jar was placed in the freezer for 18 hours, then taken out, and then placed at (23±2)°C for 6 hours, which was a complete freeze-thaw cycle.
2. Method B
1) Use an ordinary stainless steel paint mixer to manually stir the test sample in the container, and then test its initial viscosity according to regulations. After testing, the samples should be sealed tightly, marked with the words "Contrast Sample", and stored at (23±2)°C.
2) After stirring the other two test samples as required, mark them with the words "Test Sample" and place them in the freezer. The freezer temperature is maintained at (-18±2)℃.
The sample jars must not be in contact with the box wall or bottom (the sample jars can be placed on a shelf). There must be at least a 25 mm gap between adjacent sample jars and between the sample jars and the box wall to facilitate free circulation of air around the sample.
The sample jar was placed in the freezer for 17 h, then taken out and stored at (23±2)°C.
