Test Background
Anti-sag refers to the maximum wet film thickness that does not produce a tendency to flow during the drying process of a sample placed tilted under specified application conditions, specified substrates and specified environmental conditions, expressed in microns. The paint and varnish sag resistance test can be used to evaluate the sag resistance of paints, varnishes and similar coated materials by applying them to a substrate and placing them in a vertical position.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various paints and varnishes, and provides professional sag resistance test services for paints and varnishes.
Scope of tests
Color paint is divided into primer and topcoat: primer is divided into primer, putty, mid-coat, sealer, anti-rust paint, etc.; topcoat is divided into enamel paint, special topcoat, etc.
The paint and film of varnish are transparent and are divided into ester varnish, shellac varnish, phenolic varnish, alkyd varnish, acrylic varnish, polyester varnish, high-performance varnish, fluorocarbon varnish, etc.
Test method
The sag resistance of paint can be evaluated after it has been applied as follows:
1. Use a scaled sagging applicator to scrape the test panel placed horizontally, and then place the test panel vertically:
During the test, apply the test coating on two test panels and scrape the sagging applicator along the test panels. Place the test panels vertically, record the thickest strip of coating film without sagging marks on each test panel, and measure the actual wet film thickness of each strip of coating film on the third test panel.
2. Use a spray gun to spray on the substrate placed in a vertical position:
Place a test panel vertically and spray a uniform thickness of the test coating. Draw a horizontal line on the test plate and after a certain period of time, record any signs of sagging. Repeat the experiment, increasing or decreasing the coating thickness until the maximum thickness of the coating without sagging is obtained.
