Paint and varnish T-bending test

The T-bend test is a test that measures the flexibility of a coating by bending a painted test panel 180°. The paint and varnish T-bend test evaluates the flexibility and adhesion of organic coatings on metal substrates by observing cracking or peeling of painted test panels when they are bent.

Color paint is divided into primer and topcoat: primer is divided into primer, putty, mid-coat, sealer, anti-rust paint, etc.; topcoat is divided into enamel paint, special topcoat, etc.
The paint and film of varnish are transparent and are divided into ester varnish, shellac varnish, phenolic varnish, alkyd varnish, acrylic varnish, polyester varnish, high-performance varnish, fluorocarbon varnish, etc.

1. With the painted surface facing the outside of the bend, bend the painted test plate 180° with a gradually decreasing radius of curvature, where the size of the radius of curvature is determined by the spacer or shaft rod.
2. After the test panels are bent, check the cracking of the coating on each test panel through a magnifying glass and observe the peeling off of the coating through the tape peeling test.
3. The T-bend grade indicates the minimum diameter that the test plate can be bent without cracking or peeling of the coating, that is, without damage occurring. A visual inspection with a magnifying glass can also be done to determine if the coating is showing any form of peeling.
