Test Background

Cleanability refers specifically to the ability of a dry coating to resist penetration by contaminants and to be removed by a cleaning process without removing more than a specified thickness of the coating. Wet scrubbing resistance specifically refers to the ability of a dry coating film to have the average film thickness loss in a specified area be less than the specified value after 200 wet scrubbing cycles.
The paint and varnish cleaning test accelerates the determination of a coating's resistance to wet scrubbing and cleanability to assess a coating's ability to resist the abrasive effects of repeated cleaning operations and the penetration of staining agents.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various paints and varnishes, and provides professional cleaning test services for paints and varnishes.

Scope of tests

Color paint is divided into primer and topcoat: primer is divided into primer, putty, mid-coat, sealer, anti-rust paint, etc.; topcoat is divided into enamel paint, special topcoat, etc.
The paint and film of varnish are transparent and are divided into ester varnish, shellac varnish, phenolic varnish, alkyd varnish, acrylic varnish, polyester varnish, high-performance varnish, fluorocarbon varnish, etc.

Test method

1. Wet scrub resistance
1) Apply the coating to be tested to the test panel using a wet film preparer with appropriate gap depth. After drying and conditioning, the painted test panels were weighed and then subjected to 200 wet scrub cycles on a scrub tester.
2) The test plate is then rinsed, dried and weighed to determine the mass loss. Based on this value, the average film thickness loss can be calculated.
3) By comparing the average film thickness loss with the specified value agreed upon by the relevant parties, the wet scrub resistance grade of the coating can be evaluated.
2. Cleanability
1) When measuring cleanability, apply staining agent to painted test panels prepared in the same way. Allow the specified contaminant to contact the coating film for the specified time. The stained painted panels were then subjected to 200 wet scrubbing cycles.
2) When it is found that the applied staining agent can be removed and the coating is resistant to wet scrubbing, the coating can be considered cleanable with respect to the staining agent used.
