Wood creep test

Wood creep test-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

Creep refers to the deformation of the test material that increases with time under constant load. Creep is one of the most significant characteristics that distinguish wood and wood composite materials from other structural materials. When considering whether a wood composite material is suitable for engineering purposes, the creep characteristics of the material are an important factor.
The wood creep test determines the load duration effects and creep properties of wood and wood-based products, and is suitable for products such as sawn lumber, structural composite lumber, and structural wood-based panels.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has reliability testing capabilities for various types of wood and provides professional creep testing services for wood and wood-based products.

Scope of tests

Wood can be divided into:
according to how it is used 1) Wood restructured materials such as plywood, particleboard, fiberboard, laminated veneer lumber, laminated lumber, restructured wood, oriented strand board, restructured decorative veneer, etc.
2) Wood-based composite materials such as gypsum particleboard, cement particleboard, wood/plastic composite materials, wood/metal composite materials, wood conductive materials and wood ceramics.

Test method

1. Short-term bending test
The loading speed should be such that the specimen is destroyed in about 1 minute, the minimum should not be destroyed in 10 seconds, and the maximum should not exceed 10 minutes. The 5% percentile value of the flexural strength of the short-term test specimens was estimated using a non-parametric method.
2. Flexural creep test
The average time for flexural creep loading to a predetermined stress level shall not be greater than the average time from the start of loading to failure in short-term flexural tests. After the loading is completed, a creep test is carried out for at least 90 days.

Test standard:

GB/T 31291-2014 Evaluation of load duration effects and creep properties of wood and wood-based products
GB/T 1931 Method for determination of moisture content of wood
GB/T50329 Wood structure test method standard
ISO 16572 Timber structures - Testing methods for structural characteristics of artificial panels
