Test Background

In practical applications, it often happens that material particles with a certain speed collide with the plastic surface, causing the surface to be scratched. For example, transparent plastic lenses, film and photo paper used in cinematography, etc., will be scratched on the surface due to the impact of dust and dust particles in the atmosphere. And
The degree of scratches is related to the material of the plastic itself and directly affects its application. Therefore, measuring the scratch resistance of plastics has practical significance for material selection in practical applications and the research and development of new synthetic materials.
Scratch resistance refers to the ability of a plastic surface to resist scratches, and is evaluated by the change in surface gloss or haze of the material before and after scratches and the amount of abrasive used. The plastic scratch resistance test can use the falling sand method to determine the scratch resistance of the plastic surface, which is suitable for evaluating the scratch resistance of the plastic film, sheet and plate surface.

Scope of tests

Plastic film: Film made of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene and other resins, used for packaging and as a lamination layer.
Plastic sheets: PET (polyethylene terephthalate) hard sheets, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) hard sheets, PS (polystyrene) hard sheets, etc.
Plastic sheet: It is a sheet made of plastic as raw material. It is widely used in the construction and chemical industries and is used in chemical industry, environmental protection and other fields.

Test method

The abrasive falls freely from a certain height and hits the plastic surface at the same angle, causing scratches on the surface. The scratch resistance of plastics is evaluated by the change in surface gloss or haze of the material before and after scratches and the amount of abrasive used.
