Fiber reinforced plastic water absorption test

Fiber reinforced plastic water absorption test-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

The fiber-reinforced plastic water absorption test can measure the water absorption of fiber-reinforced plastics. The water immersion temperature is 23°C and boiling water temperature respectively. Fiber-reinforced plastics that soften and lose their original shape at boiling water temperatures can only be tested at 23°C.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has reliability testing capabilities for various fiber-reinforced plastics and provides professional water absorption testing services for fiber-reinforced plastics.

Scope of tests

Commonly used fiber-reinforced plastics include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyester (PET) and other high-molecular polymers and high-purity natural wood, as well as some man-made fibers (cellulose fibers), glass-reinforced resins and metal fibers.
It can be divided into three categories according to its molding methods: thermoplastic resin, thermosetting resin, and polycarbonate.

Test method

When a solid material comes into contact with a liquid, the liquid molecules will diffuse into the solid material and exist in the solid in a physical or chemical manner. The macroscopic manifestation is an increase in the mass of the solid material. The size and speed of the mass increase are the inherent properties of the material, that is, the water absorption of the material. Water absorption can be expressed in the following way:
a) Absolute water absorption;
b) Water absorption per unit surface area;
c) Percentage of water absorption relative to sample mass.

Test standard:

GB/T 1462-2005 Test method for water absorption of fiber reinforced plastics
ASTM D570-98 Standard test method for water absorption of plastics
GB/T 1446 General principles for performance test methods of fiber reinforced plastics
