Test Background

Glass fiber reinforced plastic, also known as fiberglass, is a material composed of glass fiber and one or several thermosetting or thermoplastic resins. It is widely used in urban sculptures, arts and crafts shapes, fast food tables and chairs, motorcycle parts, fiberglass flower pots, safety helmets, high-end amusement equipment, household appliance casings, etc.
The glass fiber reinforced plastic water absorption test can determine the mass water absorption percentage of the glass fiber reinforced plastic honeycomb core, the water absorption per unit volume, and the mass loss percentage of water-soluble substances. The water absorption performance of materials is generally used for quality inspection or comparison when selecting materials.

Test method

When a glass fiber reinforced plastic honeycomb core sample is immersed in water, water molecules will diffuse into the sample and remain in the sample. At the same time, the sample may also be partially dissolved in the water. The macroscopic manifestation is an increase or decrease in the mass of the sample. The amount of mass increase reflects the water absorption performance of the material.
The dissolution of part of the solid matter in water is the mass loss of water-soluble substances.
