Wear test of metallic materials

Wear test of metallic materials-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

Wear is due to mechanical action, chemical reactions (including thermochemical, electrochemical and mechanochemical reactions), the continuous loss of material on the surface of the material or the occurrence of residual deformation and fracture.
Wear is a surface phenomenon that occurs on objects, and the contact surfaces must have relative motion. Wear inevitably produces material loss (including material transfer), and it is a progressive dynamic process with time-varying characteristics. The metal material wear test can measure the wear amount and friction coefficient of metal materials under sliding friction conditions.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various metal materials, and provides professional wear testing services for metal materials.

Scope of tests

1. Carbon steel: refers to an iron-carbon alloy composed of less than 2.11% carbon and a small amount of silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus and other impurity elements, referred to as carbon steel.
2. Non-ferrous metals and their alloys: In industry, iron and its alloys are called ferrous metals, and other metals and their alloys are collectively called non-ferrous metals. Commonly used cast nonferrous metals include aluminum, magnesium, copper, zinc, lead, tin, titanium, etc.
3. Alloy steel: divided into alloy structural steel, alloy tool steel and special performance steel according to use.
4. Cast iron: divided into gray cast iron, malleable cast iron, ductile iron and vermicular graphite cast iron.

Test method

The test block is in contact with the test ring at a specified rotation speed and is subjected to a certain test force. After the specified number of revolutions, the volume wear of the test block is calculated using the width of the wear mark, and the mass wear of the test ring is measured using the weighing method.
During the test, the friction force and positive pressure on the test block are continuously measured and the friction coefficient is calculated.

Test standard:

GB/T 12444-2006 Metal materials Wear test methods Test ring-test block sliding wear test
ASTM G77-98 material test ring-test block sliding wear test
