Destructive testing of welds on metallic materials-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

Destructive tests on metal material welds include impact tests on fusion welding and pressure welding joints of metal materials and fusion weld fracture tests, which are used to determine the strength, plasticity and toughness of welding materials, weld metals and welded joints under various conditions.
Zhongke Testing and Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various metal materials, and provides professional weld destructive testing services for metal materials.

Scope of tests

Metal materials are usually divided into ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals and special metal materials.
1. Ferrous metals include chromium, manganese and their alloys.
2. Non-ferrous metals refer to all metals and their alloys except iron, chromium and manganese, which are usually divided into light metals, heavy metals, precious metals, semi-metals, rare metals and rare earth metals.
3. Special metal materials include structural metal materials and functional metal materials for different purposes. Among them are amorphous metal materials obtained through rapid condensation processes, as well as quasicrystalline, microcrystalline, and nanocrystalline metal materials; there are also special functional alloys such as stealth, hydrogen resistance, superconductivity, shape memory, wear resistance, vibration reduction and damping, and metal matrix composite materials.

Test method

Impact test:
1. The impact sample should be intercepted horizontally from the welded joint, and the longitudinal axis of the sample should be perpendicular to the length of the weld. The notch position can be determined through macro-erosion.
2. The impact test shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 229. The test temperature, sampling position, specimen type, specimen size and notch orientation should comply with the relevant application standards.
Breaking test:
The bending or stretching method is used to apply a static load or a dynamic load to the weld to break it at the weld so as to examine the fracture surface. In order to induce fracture, the notch size and temperature can be changed.
Unless otherwise specified, the test is conducted at an ambient temperature of 23°C ± 5°C.
