Short-term water absorption test of building insulation products

Short-term water absorption test of building insulation products-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

The short-term water absorption of building insulation products is intended to simulate the water absorption caused by building insulation products exposed to rain for 24 hours during structural work. Through the process of this experiment, the performance of thermal insulation products can be judged. The short-term water absorption test of building insulation products can determine the short-term water absorption of the sample. Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various building insulation products, and provides professional short-term water absorption test and other reliability testing services for building insulation products.

Scope of tests

Inorganic fibrous products: asbestos products, mineral wool products, glass wool products, ceramic fiber products
Inorganic granular products: expanded vermiculite products, expanded perlite products
Inorganic porous products: diatomite products, microporous calcium silicate products, foam glass products, foam concrete and aerated concrete products

Test method

The sample is placed in water in the prescribed manner, and after 24 hours, its mass change is measured. The water attached to the surface but not absorbed into the sample can be removed by method A - draining method or substituted into the calculation using method B - initial water removal method.
1. Method A—draining method:
Place the specimen in the empty water tank and use a weight block heavy enough to keep the specimen partially immersed after adding water. Carefully add water until the lower surface of the sample is (10 ± 2) mm below the water surface. Ensure that the water level remains constant during the test.
2. Method B—Removing initial water:
Place the sample in the water tank so that its lower surface is immersed in the water (10 ± 2) mm. After 10 s, take out the sample and keep it horizontal, and place it into a plastic tray of known mass within 5 s. Weigh the sample and tray instrument to determine the mass m of the sample containing the initially carried water and record it. Put the sample into the water tank again, and use a weight block heavy enough to keep part of the lower surface of the sample immersed in the water (10 ± 2) mm after adding water. Ensure that the water level remains constant during the test.
