Optical fiber coating strippability test

Optical fiber coating strippability test-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

The coating layer of the optical fiber is mainly to protect the fiber core, and peeling off the coating layer before using the fiber cleaver is to facilitate subsequent optical fiber splicing. The purpose of the optical fiber product coating strippability test is to test the optical fiber produced by the optical fiber manufacturer or the optical fiber that is subsequently coated with various polymers (including a tight buffer layer), and to determine the force required to quantitatively mechanically strip off the protective coating along the longitudinal axis of the optical fiber.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has environmental testing capabilities for various optical fibers and provides professional coating strippability testing services for optical fiber products.

Scope of tests

Category A1, A2, A3, B, C and D optical fibers with a nominal cladding diameter of 125μm and a nominal outer coating (including tight buffer layer) diameter of 200 μm to 900 μm.

Type of test

Method A—Average Peeling Force
Start the tensile testing machine to provide a constant relative motion between the fiber specimen and the stripping tool. Observe and record the force required to peel off the coating layer of the optical fiber sample, and remove the first 20% of the data from the peeling length. Calculate the average peel force. Take the average of the average peeling force values of 10 or more sections of optical fiber specimens and record it in the report as the "average peeling force".
Method B—Peak peel force
Start the tensile testing machine to provide a constant relative motion between the fiber specimen and the stripping tool. Observe and record the force required to strip the fiber coating. Record the peak peel force. Take the average value of the peak peeling force of 10 or more sections of optical fiber specimens and record it in the report as "peak peeling force".
