Test Background

Coatings applied to substrates are inevitably subject to damaging impacts during product manufacturing and use. The impact resistance of a coating refers to the number of kilograms per meter required for deformation of the coating to cause cracking. The impact resistance test of paints and varnishes can use a spherical punch with a diameter of 12.7mm or 15.9mm to hit the coating and substrate to cause rapid deformation and evaluate the deformation results.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various paints and varnishes, and provides professional impact resistance testing services for paints and varnishes.

Scope of tests

Color paint is divided into primer and topcoat: primer is divided into primer, putty, mid-coat, sealer, anti-rust paint, etc.; topcoat is divided into enamel paint, special topcoat, etc.
The paint and film of varnish are transparent and are divided into ester varnish, shellac varnish, phenolic varnish, alkyd varnish, acrylic varnish, polyester varnish, high-performance varnish, fluorocarbon varnish, etc.

Test method

1. Apply the coating to be tested on a suitable metal sheet. After the coating solidifies, drop a standard weight from a certain distance and impact the punch to deform the coating and substrate. It can be forward punching or backlashing (that is, the indentation can be concave or convex).
2. By gradually increasing the falling distance of the weight, the numerical point at which the coating is damaged can be measured. The coating is generally damaged by cracking, which can be observed more clearly with a magnifying glass or using CuSO4 solution on the steel plate, or using a pinhole detector.
