Test Background
Structural wood composites include a range of different derived wood products, all of which are made by gluing strips, fibers or planks of wood together. Mechanical tests of structural wood composites can measure their mechanical properties such as flexural strength and flexural elastic modulus, along-grain tensile strength, along-grain compressive strength, transverse-grain compressive strength, and along-grain shear strength.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various types of wood, and provides professional mechanical testing services such as flexural strength and flexural elastic modulus tests, along-grain tensile strength tests, along-grain compressive strength tests, cross-grain compressive strength tests, and along-grain shear strength tests for structural wood composite products.
Scope of tests
Structural wood composite materials are made of veneers, veneer laths or shavings, etc., which are assembled along the length of the components and laminated and glued with structural adhesive. Structural wood composites include laminated veneer lumber, laminated veneer lumber and oriented strand laminated lumber.
Test method
1. The moisture content and air-dry density of each specimen should be recorded. Moisture content and air-dry density are determined according to GB/T 17657.
2. Mechanical property testing should at least include the following indicators: flexural strength and flexural elastic modulus, tensile strength along the grain, compressive strength along the grain, compressive strength along the grain and shear strength along the grain.
3. Bending performance: Determine the bending strength and apparent elastic modulus under flat bending and side bending conditions according to GB/T 50329. For two-point loading, the span-to-height ratio should be between 17 and 21.
4. Tensile strength along the grain: Determine the tensile strength along the grain according to the prescribed method.
5. Compressive performance along the grain: Determine the compressive strength along the grain of short columns according to the provisions of GB/T 50329.
6. Cross-grain compression performance: Determine the cross-grain compressive strength according to all transverse grain compression test methods in GB/T 1939. One set of tests adopts the loading direction perpendicular to the L-X plane, and the other set of tests adopts the loading direction perpendicular to the L-Y plane.
7. Shear resistance along the grain: The shear strength along the grain in the L-Y or L-X plane should be determined according to the provisions of GB/T 1937. When evaluating the impact of the product production process on the along-grain shear strength, the test method of the along-grain shear strength of a full-scale specimen should be used.
