Impact compression test of fiber reinforced plastics

Impact compression test of fiber reinforced plastics-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

The fiber-reinforced plastic compression test determines the post-impact compressive strength, post-impact effective compression modulus, and post-impact ultimate compressive strain of continuous fiber-reinforced plastic laminates with balanced and symmetrical layups.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capability of reliability testing of various fiber-reinforced plastics and provides professional impact compression testing services for fiber-reinforced plastic laminates.

Scope of tests

Commonly used fiber-reinforced plastics include polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), polyester (PET) and other high-molecular polymers and high-purity natural wood, as well as some man-made fibers (cellulose fibers), glass-reinforced resins and metal fibers.
It can be divided into three categories according to its molding methods: thermoplastic resin, thermosetting resin, and polycarbonate.

Test method

1. After the sample is impacted with a certain energy at the center of the sample along the thickness direction, a compressive load is applied to the sample along the length direction until the sample fails.
2. The method for judging the validity of the test is as follows:
a) The test results where the damage occurs at obvious defects are invalid:
b) The test results of failure caused by the compression of the sample end face are invalid. If the sample end face is crushed, but stopped midway, and the final failure occurs in the working section of the sample, the test results are valid:
c) If the specimen becomes unstable or the bending percentage exceeds 10%, the test results are invalid: if the bending percentage at the midpoint of the effective compression modulus value strain range exceeds 10%, the effective compression modulus results are invalid; if the bending percentage at the maximum load exceeds 10%, the post-impact compressive strength and post-impact ultimate compressive strain are invalid.

Test standard:

GB/T 21239-2022 Test method for post-impact compression properties of fiber-reinforced plastic laminates
GB/T 1446 General principles for performance test methods of fiber reinforced plastics
GB/T 3961 Fiber reinforced plastic terminology
