Test Background
When rubber is compressed, it undergoes physical and chemical changes. When the compression force is removed, these changes prevent the rubber from returning to its original state, causing compression set. The size of the compression set depends on the temperature and time during compression, as well as the temperature and time during recovery.
At low temperatures, vitrification and crystallization effects are the main causes of compression permanent deformation in rubber. Since these effects will gradually disappear as the temperature rises, all measurements must be performed at the test temperature. The compression set test of vulcanized rubber or thermoplastic rubber can determine the compression set performance of vulcanized rubber or thermoplastic rubber under low temperature, normal temperature and high temperature conditions.

Scope of tests
Vulcanized rubber: flat vulcanizing machine vulcanizing type, vulcanizing tank vulcanizing type, continuous vulcanizing type, special vulcanizing type, etc.
Thermoplastic rubber: polystyrene, polyurethane, polyolefin, polyester, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, ethylene-acrylate copolymer, polyethylene-butyl rubber joint copolymer, etc.
Test method

under normal temperature and high temperature conditions
At standard laboratory temperature, a sample with a known height is compressed to a specified height according to the compression ratio requirements. It is compressed for a certain period of time at standard laboratory temperature or high temperature conditions, and then the compression is removed under certain temperature conditions. The sample is returned to a free state for a specified time, and the height of the sample is measured.

under low temperature conditions
Compress a specimen of known height to a specified height at standard laboratory temperatures. Maintain a certain period of time under specified low temperature conditions, then release the compression at the same low temperature, restore the specimen to a free state, and measure the height of the specimen: it can be measured once every specified time (by plotting the compression height versus time, the compression permanent deformation characteristics of the specimen under low temperature conditions can be evaluated), or it can be measured after the specified time.
