Knoop hardness test of metallic materials

Knoop hardness test of metallic materials-Mechanical Testing-

Test Background

Knoop hardness test is one of the microhardness tests. It can measure the hardness of materials under a small test force. The indentation produced by a slight test force is very small and the indentation depth is very shallow. It can be used to measure the hardness of small parts, such as instrument parts, gears, shaft tips, filaments, etc.; it can measure the hardness of thin parts or thin layers, such as cutting edges, coatings, diffusion layers, etc.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various metal materials, and provides professional Knoop hardness testing services for metal materials.

Scope of tests

Metal materials are divided into ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals. The ferrous metals include iron, copper, manganese and steel.
Non-ferrous metals include tin alloys, aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, copper alloys, aluminum alloys and zinc alloys.

Test method

Press the rhombus pyramidal diamond indenter with the two opposite surfaces at the top with specified angles into the sample surface using the test force. After the specified holding time, remove the test force and measure the length of the diagonal line of the indentation on the sample surface.
Knoop hardness is proportional to the quotient of the test force divided by the projected area of the indentation, which is considered to have the shape of a rhombohedral pyramid with the same angle as the top of the indenter.
