Optical fiber dry heat test-Reliability Testing-

Test Background

In long-term high-temperature environments, the attenuation of optical fibers in optical cables and optical fiber sensors increases. The increase in optical fiber scattering loss mainly comes from impurities inside the optical fiber and hydrogen loss in high temperature environments. This may increase a lot and is the main reason why optical cables and optical fiber sensors cannot continue to work at high temperatures.
The purpose of the dry heat test for optical fiber products is to determine the adaptability of Class A1 multimode optical fiber and Class B single-mode optical fiber under high temperature (dry heat) environmental conditions that may occur during actual application, storage and/or transportation.
Zhongke Testing Reliability Experiment Center has environmental testing capabilities for various optical fibers and provides professional dry heat testing services for optical fiber products.

Scope of tests

Class A1 multi-mode optical fiber, Class B single-mode optical fiber and other optical fiber products.

Test Procedure

1. Test conditions
The test process should comply with the specified test temperature and sample placement time. The humidity is not controlled during the test, but it is recommended that the humidity at 35°C should not be higher than 50%RH at the beginning of the test.
2. Measure
Transmission characteristic measurement, mechanical performance measurement
3. Preprocess
If required, specimens shall be pretreated in accordance with detailed specifications.
4. Conditional adjustment
The test chamber and specimens should be stabilized under specified standard atmospheric conditions before making reference measurements. Adjust the temperature and humidity of the test chamber to the specified severity. Within a maximum period of 5 minutes, the average temperature rise rate should not exceed 1°C/min. Stabilize the temperature of the sample and maintain the temperature and humidity constant for a specified period.
5. Restore
If there are no special requirements, the sample should be recovered under standard atmospheric conditions for more than 12 hours, but not more than 48 hours.
The detailed specification may require that measurements be taken during the restoration phase. If so, the detailed specification should specify when and what aspects of the measurements should be taken.
