WEEE Directive, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive (2012/19/EC). The main purpose of implementing the WE Directive is to prevent and control electrical and electronic waste (WEEE), and to achieve the reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of these wastes to reduce waste disposal. At the same time, efforts are also made to improve the environmental protection behavior of all operators involved in the life cycle of electronic and electrical equipment, such as producers, sellers, and consumers, especially those directly involved in the processing of scrapped electronic and electrical equipment. WEEE directive is to increase the recovery and recycling rate of scrapped electronic and electrical products, thereby reducing the amount of electronic waste in final processing, thereby reducing environmental pollution and improving the utilization of natural resources. At the same time, relevant EU experts also believe that the implementation of the WEEE directive will force electronic and electrical equipment manufacturers to speed up the research, design and industrial production of environmentally friendly green products.
According to the WEEE directive, starting from August 13, 2005, manufacturers of electronic and electrical equipment circulating in the EU market must legally assume the responsibility of paying the recycling costs of their own end-of-life products. Each EU member state is obliged to formulate its own recycling plan for electronic and electrical products and establish relevant supporting recycling facilities to facilitate end-users of electronic and electrical products to dispose of scrap equipment conveniently and free of charge.
