SCCPs Testing-Chemical Testing-

SCCPs TestingProject Overview

Short-chain chlorinated paraffin (SCCP) is widely used in cables, water pipes, floors, films, artificial leather, plastic products and daily necessities. Seventy percent is mainly used as a flame retardant, mixed with antimony trioxide and used in polyethylene, polystyrene, etc. Medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) are mainly used in metal working fluids, sealing reagents, rubber products, flame retardants for textile and leather products, leather products and paint coatings, etc. Medium-chain chlorinated paraffins are also the main representatives of chlorine-based flame retardants. Chlorinated paraffins can spread to remote locations in the air and affect human health. Zhongke Testing provides short-chain chlorinated paraffin testing services to help Chinese industrial products enter the EU market in compliance with regulations.

SCCP Application

Short-chain chlorinated paraffin is used as a lubricant and coolant in metal working fluids. In addition to industrial uses, short-chain chlorinated paraffin is also used in the production and processing of consumer goods. It may remain in consumer products, such as toys, wires, electrical appliances, textiles, etc., because it can be used as a secondary plasticizer in polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a flame retardant in plastics, and a fattening agent in textiles and leather. Other members of the chlorinated paraffin family can be used as alternatives to short-chain chlorinated paraffins.

SCCPs TestingControl Regulations

The current regulations governing SCCP include the European Union (EU) Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) regulations and the EU's REACH Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) list. SCCP is also listed as a priority controlled substance in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), and is listed as an extremely hazardous substance by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Looking at industries such as electronics, clothing and footwear, leading companies have banned the use of SCCP in their products.

SCCPs TestingLimit Requirements

1. In the latest standard of OEKO-TEX 100 released in January 2021, the total amount of short-chain and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins in textiles is limited to 50 mgkg
2. In the directive 2002/45/EC, the content of SCCP in metal processing and leather care agents is stipulated not to exceed 1%. It is also included in the Stockholm Convention. EU No.143/2011 (EC No.1907/2006 Annex 14) and svhc candidate list, the limit is 0.1%. On November 14, 2015, the Official Journal of the European Union (OJ) published the amendment (EU) 2015/2030 to the Persistent Organic Pollutants Directive (EC) NO 850/2004. The short-chain chlorinated paraffin provisions of Annex I were revised, and the short-chain chlorinated paraffin in articles has a limit of 0.15%.
3 and POPs have added restrictions on medium-chain chlorinated alkanes (MCCP), with a limit of 0.1%.
