Water impermeability test of building waterproofing membrane

Waterproof membrane is a rollable sheet waterproof material and one of the important types of waterproof materials in construction projects. According to its main waterproofing materials, it can be divided into three categories: asphalt waterproofing materials, polymer modified waterproofing membranes and synthetic polymer waterproofing membranes.
The water impermeability test of building waterproofing membranes can determine the water impermeability performance of asphalt and polymer waterproofing membranes, that is, the product can withstand water accumulation or limited surface withstand water pressure.

1. According to the main composition materials, it is divided into asphalt waterproof membrane, polymer modified asphalt waterproof membrane and synthetic polymer waterproof membrane.
2. According to the different carcasses, they are divided into carcassless rolls, paper carcass rolls, glass fiber carcass rolls, glass cloth carcass rolls and polyethylene carcass rolls.

For membranes related to asphalt, plastic, and rubber, the test procedures for two test methods are given in the standard.
Method A: The test is suitable for low-pressure applications of membranes, such as roofs, base layers, and vapor barriers. The specimen satisfies pressure up to 60 kPa for 24 h.
Method B: The test is suitable for high-pressure use situations of membranes, such as special roofs, tunnels, and pools. The test piece uses a disc with four slits of specified shape and size to maintain the specified water pressure for 24 hours, or uses a 7-hole disc to maintain the specified water pressure for 30 minutes, and observe whether the test piece remains impermeable to water.
