Determination of quality and volume change of building sealing materials

Determination of quality and volume change of building sealing materials-Physical Performance Testing-

Test Background

The mass and volume change measurement test of building sealing materials can measure the mass and volume changes of sealing materials used for joints in building structures. Zhongke Testing and Reliability Experiment Center has the capabilities of environmental testing and reliability performance testing of various building materials, products and components, and provides professional mechanical property testing services such as density, low temperature and temperature properties, compression properties, elastic recovery properties, mass and volume change properties, etc. for building sealing materials.

Scope of tests

1. Sealing materials can be divided into two categories according to their strength: shaped sealing materials (sealing strips, pressure strips, etc.) and non-shaped sealing materials (sealing paste or caulking paste, etc.).
Amorphous sealing materials can be divided into plastic sealing paste, elastic-plastic sealing paste and elastic sealing paste according to their raw materials and their properties.
2. Sealing materials can be divided into polysulfide, polyurethane, silicone, chloroprene rubber, butyl rubber, acrylic glue, etc. according to their chemical composition.
At present, the three types that are used in large quantities on the market are silicone, polyurethane, and polysulfide.

Test method

Fill the metal ring with the sealing material to be tested to form a test piece, and process it at room temperature and high temperature. Measure and record the difference in mass and/or volume of the test piece before and after temperature treatment.
After the specimen is prepared and weighed, it should be hung vertically and then placed in sequence according to the following conditions
a) 28 d in a curing box at (23±2)℃ and relative humidity (50±5)%;
b) 7 d in (70±2)℃ drying oven;
c) In a curing box at (23±2)℃ and relative humidity (50±5)% for 1 day.
After placement, immediately weigh the mass of the specimen in the air. For volume changes, the mass should also be weighed in the test liquid.

Test standard:
