Test Background

Heat transfer in porous moisture-containing materials involves a complex combination of different heat transfer mechanisms, including: radiation, heat conduction in solids and gases, convection (under certain service conditions), mass transfer (within the moisture-containing material), and the interactions between them.
The steady-state heat transfer test of moisture-containing building materials can use a protective hot plate or heat flow meter device to measure the heat transfer rate of moisture-containing materials under steady-state moisture conditions (that is, not affected by moisture migration) at temperatures above 0°C. The heat transfer rate of moisture-containing materials is a function of the moisture content. Combined with the data on the moisture distribution within the material, the actual thermal performance of the material can be estimated.

Scope of tests

Porous moisture-containing building materials and products such as aerated concrete, ceramic tiles, and calcium silicate boards.

Test method

1. When testing moisture-containing materials, the relevant requirements for the drying material testing process in the method standard of the device used should be met.
2. The selected test temperature should not damage the material being tested. High temperatures may cause high vapor pressure and damage the pore walls of materials with closed pore structures.
